Section 504

Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 is a civil rights statute which prohibits exclusion from programs or activities because of one's disability. A person is disabled under Section 504 is he or she has:

  • A mental or physical impairment which substantially limits one or more of major life activities.

  • A record of such impairments; or

  • Is regarded as having such impairment.

Major life activities include functions such as caring for one's self, performing daily tasks such as walking, seeing, hearing, speaking, breathing, learning and working.

The Fort Zumwalt School District complies with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act by providing services to students requiring assistance and who qualify for services under the Rehabilitation Act, as outlined in the student's individual plan.
