After 10 years as Principal at Fort Zumwalt North Middle School, Damon Burkhart will be taking the principal’s job at Hope High effective July 1. Burkhart, who has been with the district since 2005, started his career teaching Physical Education and Health at South High. He later taught for five years at West Middle before moving to administration as an assistant principal at North Middle in 2013.
He takes the leadership position at Hope High, which is home to as many as 120 students working toward graduation in an alternative environment that provides smaller class sizes, flexed school hours and additional support to lift students to their diploma.
“Hope High offers an incredible opportunity to connect on an individual level with students, and to help support them in any ways needed,” Burkhart says. “I’m looking forward to getting to know students and families and spending time with staff.”
When he’s not at school, Burkhart enjoys the time with his wife and three young sons, spending time on the sidelines coaching youth sports. “I spend a lot of time being a boy with my boys,” he says. He also enjoys music. “I enjoy a lot of different styles of music. I appreciate vinyl and love attending music concerts.”
Burkhart’s new position is effective July 1.
