West High Cyber Security team and sponsor pose with award

Congrats to West High’s Jagwires, seniors Blake Vaclavik, Varunrao Wallajabad and Saketh Subramanian. Together they finished third in the Missouri High School Cybersecurity Challenge out of a field that started with 70 teams.

The statewide event is sponsored by the Missouri Research and Education Network (MOREnet). Teams compete in an initial challenge, a virtual round that includes challenges to solve encryption, coding and cyber best practices. The Top 10 teams go to the in-person finals in Columbia. This was the third consecutive year West High has sent a team to the state finals. The range provided students with hands-on experience in a controlled, immersive environment, preparing them for the challenges of the rapidly evolving digital world.

“It’s a testament to the caliber of students and the quality of the programs we offer in our district,” West High teacher and Cybersecurity Club sponsor Jeremy Rapp says. “The goal of the competition is to inspire and cultivate the next generation of cybersecurity professionals, and our students are leading the way!”
