Congratulations to Saba Woldaregay on being named one of East High's Students of the Week for December 11th. She was nominated by Mrs. Franklin who stated Saba Woldaregay has honed the art of quiet strength. As a student, Saba has found her voice more and more in discussions and in her writing. In class, she is a kind, helpful classmate. In her quiet contributions, she supports the people around her, but she's also found more confidence in her own voice. Outside of class, she shares her voice in FZEiam, contributing to the overall positivity and inclusion in our school. Last year she shared about some of the burden she carries for the genocide and devastation in her home country of Ethiopia. I'm thankful that I get to see her grow in her voice and leadership. I know she's going to do amazing things beyond East High School.
Few things can get you more college or career ready than a group research assignment and presentation. Students in the St. Charles County CAPS program made it look easy. The Centers for Advanced Professional Studies provide high school students from all five county school districts the chance to work together in real-world settings. Earlier this month a team presented their data and marketing proposal to the county Workforce Development Board. “Not only did they have great data and ideas, they did a PHENOMENAL job speaking and presenting,” one board member shared in an email. Their recommendations are being implemented by one of the sub-committees of that Board! Working together to build the workforce of tomorrow. You can learn more about CAPS at scccaps.org

Benjamin Rees was nominated for Student of the Week for December 11th by Mrs. Venneman. She reported Jian-Jian is an incredible person and wonderful student to have in AP Statistics. Despite his challenges with physical impairments and needing to be in a wheelchair again this year, he is super positive and always has a smile on his face. When I broke his microphone on the first day of using it (sorry again Jian-Jian!), he was very understanding and we worked together to figure out how to fix it. Jian-Jian is such a hard worker and never lets his obstacles stand in the way of reaching his goals. He is very bright, responsible, and gets along with everyone. I am so lucky that I get to have Jian-Jian in class. Congratulations!
December 13th, wear your holiday bling or holiday accessories for Holiday Spirit Week
Congratulations to Gavin Ralston on being named Student of the Week for December 11th. Mrs. Brigman nominated Gavin, for many reasons. She stated he deserves recognition for his remarkable qualities I have observed. Gavin has a friendly personality. He gives everyone in class nothing but respect in every encounter. He is extremely conscientious and polite. I appreciate Gavin’s authentic and honest disposition. He ‘puts himself out there’ in a class that can be very intimidating. He leads by example, which enables others to be courageous, too. As a student in my Precalculus class, he is always willing to participate in class discussions and contributes daily to problems we work together on the board. I want to recognize Gavin’s excellence in work ethic. This course has topics and required discipline and rigor that is quite different than previous math courses. The class is a shock to even the brightest students. However, I believe his level of discipline, focus, and responsibility allows him to tackle the material successfully. I am so pleased with his readiness for the content and daily contributions to class. When encountering a difficult assignment, he is organized and prepared to ask specific questions. His hard work will pay off! I am incredibly thankful to have such a diligent student.
