The word JANUARY over blue and silver snowflakes, over a white field

Trailblazer Families,

This month we have updates regarding:

  • DARE Graduation

  • iReady, Round 2

  • Reading Success Plans

  • PTC Events: Trivia Night, Great Skate

  • Cold Weather Procedures

  • Important January Dates

DARE Graduation

We will celebrate our 5th Grade DARE graduates on January 7!  This is a date change.  Originally, the date was January 8, however due to an unforeseen scheduling change we needed to find another date.  East HS was fortunately able to host us on January 7.  With all of that said, here’s the info regarding this event:

  • Date: January 7, 2025

  • Time: 6:30pm

  • Location: East HS Auditorium (600 1st Executive Ave, St Peters, MO 63376)

iReady, Round 2!

We will begin our second round of iReady benchmark testing starting January 7.  This will be a great way to gauge how our Trailblazers have grown since August. We will start with Math and then complete the Reading benchmark by the end of January. When results are in, we will share with families so you can see the amazing progress of your Trailblazer(s) this year.

Reading Success Plans

If your Trailblazer(s) qualified for a Reading Success Plan, that should have come home to you in the past week.  The goal of these plans are to identify students with a significant reading deficiency in one or more of the following areas: Phonological Awareness, Phonics, Vocabulary, Fluency, or Comprehension.  If you have any questions or concerns about your Trailblazer in the area of reading (or any area) reach out at any time!

PTC Events

We are hosting our next Great Skate Night on January 15.  As a reminder, these are NOT “drop and go” events, and we do need all students to be accompanied by an adult.  It’s 100% okay for a Trailblazer to come with a neighbor or friend’s guardian, but all students need to be accompanied.

We are excited to host an SPE/LCE PTC Trivia Night on January 24, at The Summit (927 E. Terra Ln, O’Fallon, MO 63366).  Information regarding this event can be found by clicking here!  Any funds generated from this event will go to support LCE teachers and staff, which in turn boosts their ability to support our students!

Cold Weather Procedures

We will likely start seeing some cold and nasty days here in January. We wanted to share a few bits of information about how we handle inclement weather.

If the temperature, air temp or wind chill, is unsafe for students to be outside, district office will move all elementary recesses to indoor recess. If the playground, surfaces and temperature are safe we will be outside, so please send your child with appropriate attire for the cold.

With cold and flu season upon us, please encourage your child to wash their hands regularly. We will do the same at school. We also ask and encourage you to keep your child home if they are ill so that they can rest and recover.

You should have received packets for Alternative Method of Instruction (AMI) Days at conferences. Remember, you can always find all of the information on this at go.FZSD.us/AMIDays.
