Updated Feb. 19, 2025
It’s been one of those winters we just aren’t used to here in St. Louis. In addition to a lot of snow, we also have had stretches of prolonged and bitter cold. Tuesday, Feb. 18, we used the last AMI Day available under the law, so any other inclement weather cancellation will be treated as a traditional snow day. There will be no packet or online work and the DAY(S) WILL HAVE TO BE MADE UP, which will change the last day of school. Your school website calendar and the FZSD Quick Calendar will be updated if necessary. With the snow day today, Feb. 19, the last day for students Pre-K - 8 is now May 30 and the last day for high school will be a half-day of finals June 2. Staff will have a records day June 2 (all day K-8 and half-day HS).
Did you know? The Class of 2025 has experienced 47 inclement weather days total, 24 of them since the law introduced AMI rules when they were in 8th Grade. Since AMI was introduced our graduating seniors, along with their fellow students, have been saved 17 make-up inclement weather days because they were able to work remotely.
Be ready for Inclement Weather Days
Should Fort Zumwalt call school due to inclement weather during the 2024-2025 school year, the first instance will be a traditional snow day. There will not be any remote work for the first day of school canceled due to weather. The day will have to be made up at the end of the school year.
Should the district need to call any other days due to inclement weather, we will make use of the Alternative Methods of Instruction (AMI) days provided through state law. This will mean that students and teachers will work remotely and that the days will not have to be made up at the end of the school year. We can do this for up to five inclement weather days. Families of students grades Pre-K - 5 have packets on hand at home for use on these days. They are also available to print at go.FZSD.us/AMIDays.
Families should expect an email from the teacher in the morning that will lay out the class expectations for the day, packet information and due date. Teachers should also share tips for parents/guardians in case a student struggles with any of the material. Teachers will be available to parents/guardians via email throughout the school day. Some might offer additional virtual activities or work virtually with students who need assistance.
Please be sure your contact information is current in the FZSD Family Portal. FZSD notifies families of inclement weather closures through our notification system by phone call, text message, email, and push notification on the Fort Zumwalt and Family Portal apps. Both are free in your app store. In the Fort Zumwalt app, click menu, then settings. Set your default organization, the school you want news from when you open your app. Under organizations, add other schools you would like quick access to. Under push notifications, select the schools you want to be able to send alerts to you via the app.
